Pattishall CE Primary is a small school with big ambitions! This year, under the new leadership of Head Teacher, Emma McLean, the school have prioritised well-being and nurture in order to create a holistic approach to the children's education.
With the support of John Atkin, at the local Methodist chapel in Astcote, a group of children set up "Chicken Club". The children involved planned for and resourced everything they needed for the arrival of the two hens, donated by Harrison and Joshua in Years 1 and 4.
As part of their endeavours, Sol, George, Reuben, Aden, Warren and Tyler approached local companies for support with sourcing food and bedding. The school are very grateful to Haygates for the 20kg bag of layers pellets that will see them through for many weeks to come! Thanks also to Bell Plantation for welcoming the children and teaching them how to look after their new feathered friends.
The school have also committed to being a flagship Healthy School; and as part of the nurturing ethos the children have planted vegetables in the garden area to be used for cooking. We already have a full egg box and have plans to use them for baking, cooking and selling. The school's Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA), Heidi Berry, is looking forward to working with the children on different ways to use the produce - we may even have the weirdest shaped vegetable at the Pattishall Produce Show in September!
In order to maintain the garden area and buy the tools they need to continue to educate the children in living healthy, sustainable lifestyles, they needed more funding in these financially challenged times.
Infinis is a company with sustainability and renewable energy at its heart. They are a leading renewable power generator and the largest generator from landfill gas in the U.K. They provide numerous small donations to good causes and charities based on staff nominations.
On Friday 22nd June, Kate Phillips - an Infinis manager - presented Head Teacher, Emma McLean, and Year 1 pupil Isla, with a cheque for £200.
Mrs McLean said "we are so grateful for all the help we have had in developing our outdoor learning and are looking forward to reaping the benefits come the autumn. The £200 donation will ensure that we can continue with our ambitions to create a holistic approach to learning and put the heart back into education."
