Silverstone opened their outdoor season with a friendly at Wicken on Sunday 22nd April 2018.  With the side including four players making their debut for the club and with the first team now in the Premier Division of the South Northants Cricket League, it was important to make an impression on the assembled group of selectors.

On a warm afternoon, Silverstone batted first and made a slow but steady start.  The score had progressed to 16 in the 9th over when Lee Hayward (9) was LBW to Pitcher.   Richard West (12) was bowled in the 18th over with the score on 45-2.  This brought the first big partnership that moved the score onto 111 in the 24th over before Graeme Cessford (47) was bowled.  Ben Cooper (20) was run out before Sean Stokes (51 not out) retired.  The next partnership saw big hitting from Sachin Patil (52 not out) and Sean Gardiner (55 not out) continue to score with easy.  The final wickets saw Tony Wallinger (5), Fergus Moran (1) and Jake Bates (0) all dismissed leaving Jenny Williams (0 not out).

Wicken were always behind the required run rate but took the opportunity for batting practice.  Wickets fell at regular intervals with some tight Silverstone bowling and good fielding.  Fergus Moran (1-8), Sean Stokes (0-10), Sean Gardiner (2-8), Tony Wallinger (0-12), Sachin Patil (0-9), Jenny Williams (2-11), Jake Bates (1-4), Richard West (0-4) and Graeme Cessford (0-0) all bowled well.  Catches were taken by Sachin Patil, Sean Gardiner and Graeme Cessford).

The last indoor net session is at Sponne School on Wednesday 25th April 19.30-21.30 before the league season starts on Saturday 28th April with the first team at Charlton and the reformed second team at home to Willoughby A.  Outdoor sessions will take place at the Silverstone Recreational Association on Tuesday 1st May and Thursday 3rd May starting at 18.15.  New players are welcome to attend
