Towcestrians Sports Club played host to the successful East Midlands Mini and Junior Rugby Association Mobbs Memorial Under 9s Cup also known as the Mini Mobbs, on Sunday 24th November 2013.

The enthusiasm of players and coaches in cold but dry conditions, although a bit muddy under foot, was much in evidence.

The final between rivals Old Northamptonians (ONs) and Bugbrooke saw Bugbrooke prevail.

Speaking to AboutMyArea/NN12 Kelly Harry, U9s Towcestrians Mini and Junior Section, said, "The tournament is played in honour of the memory of Lt Col Edgar Mobbs, DSO who lost his life in the great war, leading men from the Sportsmans Battalion, the 7th (Service) Battalion of the Northamptonshire Regiment against a German machine gun post at Passchendaele.

"He played for Bedford Modern School, Olney, Northampton, East Midlands and also captained England against France in 1910.

"We knew the players would display the bravery, sportsmanship and competitiveness examplified by Edgar Mobbs."

24 Clubs entered this year's U9 Mobbs, allowing the tournament to be split between Ampthill (Southern) and Towcestrains (Northern). The winner of each division will go through to the final to be contested next Spring.

The Northern division included:

  • Towcester Tornadoes
  • Brackley
  • Long Buckby A
  • Bugbrooke
  • Rushden and Higham
  • Stewart and Lloyds
  • Long Buckby B
  • Towcester Warriors
  • Casuals
  • ONs
  • Old Scouts
  • Oundle
