However Sam Heath and Rob Tootell put on 149 for the 3rd wicket, both making excellent use of a good wicket and quick outfield. Heath was particularly brutal on anything that was off line bludgeoning his way to 83 with Tootell adding 43. Both fell to the wicket keeper/ occasional bowling of the skipper Lewis Gates. The rain duly arrived and some clever thinking by the captains and umpires resulted in tea being taken early to avoid losing any overs from the match. As the innings resumed 200-4 became 252 all out in the 43rd over. Scott Ramsey, James Nealon and skipper Paul Brown all got starts but weren’t able to go onto to a substantial score. Gates finishing with 6-55.

Heath and Ramsey opened the bowling. Heath struck in his first 3 overs helped by a stunning catch in the slip cordon by Brown. Ramsey then started to take wickets as well. James Stevenson was the only batsman offering any resistance and when he was 9th man out for a well-made 50 the score was 58-9. The last 2 batsman were in fact the usual openers and in a deliberate ploy to try and save a draw they proceeded to block out for over 20 overs before SBCC own occasional bowler Tootell manged to find a way through the brick wall defence to end the innings on 88 with 22 balls to spare.  7 ducks were recorded in the innings. Heath finished with 13-5-35-5 and Ramsey 13-6-21-3. SBCC are now second in NCL Division 7 3 points off the lead.

The second team didn’t fare so well. Put into bat they were dismissed for 92 by Stony Stratford 4ths in NCL Division 13. Nick Adams 24 and Sam Newland 22 the only 2 batsmen to reach double figures. Stony lost 4 wickets reaching the total, Omar Khan 2- 6 from 4 overs the pick of the bowlers.

The Sunday side played a 25/25 game against the touring Chiltern Crusaders side. Batting first the tourists made 106 all out, Mark Tranter picking up 3 wickets. SBCC opened steadily, with Nigel Heath making 18, top scoring in what became losing cause as SBCC were bowled out for 90.

This Saturday the firsts are at Podington who sit just below them in 3rd with 2 games in hand.
