Forwards coach Darren Snook hailed his teams all round performance as "simply awesome" as the Tows continued to enjoy life in the National leagues with this bonus point win over Bridgnorth
In near perfect conditions both sides looked to play a fast expansive game, a first minute injury which saw Tows centre Wes McGimpsey sidelined with a broken collar bone, put the Tows on the back foot and that was quickly followed by a penalty from Bridgnorth by Fullback Farrington, for the visitors to take the lead.
Tows began to exert pressure and after spurning the chance of 3 points of their own Tows went for the try, only to see no.10 Ben Roe stripped of possession over the line for the visitors to clear, more Tows good play followed and a series of quick rucks and then good hands led to the opening try for veteran winger, Matt Bodily, in the corner, this was quickly followed by a carbon copy move which found Hooker, Fen Gallagher, out wide, this time converted by Matt Yuill for Tows to lead 12 - 3, Bridgnorth responded with another penalty by Farrington to cut the gap to just 6 points. Down to 14 men, following a yellow card to Kieran Frost, Tows scrum-half, Gus Hopewell, took matters into his own hands, firstly charging down a Bridgnorth clearance, for a 5 metre throw in, and then snaffling the ball from the hands of the opposition forwards as they tried to play out, coolly stepping the full back to go in near the posts, again converted by Yuill, half time score of 19 - 6
Tows appeared to still have their minds in the huddle as the second half kicked off, backing off Bridgnorths big runners and giving them easy yards, which eventually led to replacement prop, Madden, going over for the visitors to stage a mini revival, converted to close the gap to 19 - 13, but it was Tows superior fitness and work rate which started to tell, Alex Chalcraft joined the line from his wing to put Ben Roe in the corner, Bridgnorth moved the ball well and looked dangerous but the Tows defence was in no mood to allow any more scores and two line out drives late on, which had been effective all day resulted in tries five and six for Kieran Frost and Jamie Warr to take the Tows away in a game that was keenly contested and great viewing for the large crowd.
After the game Coach Snook expanded on his comments "it was an awesome performance, against a good side who clearly came to play, the lads worked extremely hard for each other as always, we made good choices and played with variety, our fitness was telling in the end and a lot of credit has to go to our conditioning coach, Dave Stocks, for his efforts"
The win consolidates Tows sixth position in the league and next week travel away to Peterborough Lions, 3.00pm Kick Off
Tows 2nd XV took the long trip to Herefordshire to suffer a 53 -27 loss to National League 2 side Luctonians, the 3rd XV beat BBOB 55 - 0 away from home and the Colts scraped home at Long Buckby, 24 - 25
