Published: 10th June 2010 17:59

Santender British Grand Prix at SilverstoneAs some as you may know, Silverstone lost the British Grand Prix in 2008 to Donington Park's plans to bring the British Grand Prix back to Leicestershire, these plans came crashing down as the refurbishment project couldn't meet its financial obligations.

Silverstone secured the contract for the British Grand Prix for 17 years due to a new track layout and up-to-date facilities that will be launched at the event in July 2010. This came as tremendous news for the Northamptonshire based circuit.

To celebrate the start of another 17 years of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Britain on Show is giving you the chance to win a pair of 3 day tickets to the event. To find out more visit: http://www.britainonshow.co.uk/competitions/

Silverstone has long been the home of Motorsport in the the United Kingdom and has held the British Grand Prix every year since 1987. In all, it has hosted over 40 Formula 1 races since the inaugural Formula 1 World Championship race in 1950.

Silverstone also has many local F1 teams based in Northamptonshire, these being; Mercedes GP, Redbull, Mclaren Mercedes, Lotus, Williams and Force India, who are actually based at the outskirts of the Silverstone circuit itself. 2010 also sees the return of Northampton based Cosworth, who will be supplying engines to 4 teams (including Williams). This return brings back one of the most famous names in racing history, and starts a new chapter in Cosworth's history at the top level of Motorsport.

This year sees the return of both last years winner Sebastian Vettel and the 2009 British Formula 1 World Champion, Jenson Button. This season Jenson Button joins Vodafone Mclaren Mercedes and is now team mates with the 2008 Formula 1 British World Champion Lewis Hamilton. No doubt as the season progresses these two British drivers, in the same British team will go toe to toe with each and the rest of the field as they battle it out to win the 2010 Formula 1 World Championship.

2010 also sees the return of Michael Schumacher who returned this season after retiring in 2006, he completes an all German line-up at Mercedes GP Petronas, and as he finally gets to grips with the new cars and tyres we are starting to see Schumacher of old.

Santender British Grand Prix at SilverstoneThe Santander British Grand Prix will be a fantastic event, which will celebrate the return of the legendary and infamous Michael Schumacher as well as the engineering genius of Cosworth to the pinnacle of world class Motorsport. Not to be outshone by Schumacher's return, the racing will be tight and fierce as Mclaren's teaming of Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton will challenge the dominant Redbull's of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber for a win on home soil.
