Father and Daughter Pair Reach Final of Central England Open

A 15 year old schoolgirl is celebrating her success in a major regional golf tournament at one of the world's top 100 courses in Lincolnshire.

Ockbrook School student Leanne Martin paired with her father, former professional golfer Neil, in the Central England Open Mixed Foursomes on The Hotchkin Course at the National Golf Centre, Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire. Just a single hole off the pace, Leanne and Neil pushed the winning couple, John Howlett and Sharon Coyne, all the way to the final green.

Leanne, who lives in Beeston, says: "It was such a surprise reaching the final but we played some great golf and, having come so close, it was disappointing to lose by a single hole. But it was great playing alongside my dad in such a high profile competition."

Two-times Men's tournament winner Neil says: "Leanne's ability to perform under the pressure of the occasion was the biggest revelation to me, as many fine golfers, and sportsmen in general, do not possess that invaluable quality. She continually hit good golf shots and never once took the easy option. It was a wonderful five days of intense golf over eight rounds on an extremely difficult test of golf, namely The Hotchkin. I could not be more proud of her."

The tournament has been held since 1931 and past winners include many people that have gone on to gain international honours, including Guy Wolstenholme, Peter Townsend, Ian Mosey, Jim Payne (Walker Cup and tour winner), Charles Banks, Miss J Gordon and Allison Johns.

Grangemount and Ockbrook School are located between Nottingham and Derby, just off the A52. Grangemount Nursery & Junior School to Ockbrook School is an independent school for boys and girls aged 2-11 and Ockbrook School is an independent school for girls aged 11-18 years.
