Record-breaking Adventurer Returns to Inspire Students’ Journeys

Author: Redbrick Published: 26th September 2019 10:34

Record-breaking adventurer, speaker and presenter, and Ockbrook School alumni, Squash Falconer returned to her old stomping ground as guest of honour at the co-educational independent school's annual Speech Day and Prize Giving.

As the first British woman to climb and paraglide from the summit of Mont Blanc, she put her adventures aside and made a triumphant return to inspire students' journeys.

Squash says: "It's a real honour to be invited to this year's Speech Day. It doesn't seem that long ago that I was sitting amongst the audience enjoying inspirational stories from special guests, so it's slightly surreal that it is now my turn to share my story with the students, parents and guests.

"I look back on my time at Ockbrook with great affection. The support I received from my teachers gave me a great platform from which to reach my potential. I have achieved more than I ever could possibly imagine. Taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award at school might have something to do with my insatiable drive for adventure, inspiring me to embrace my love of sport and the great outdoors."

Tom Brooksby, Headmaster, Ockbrook School, adds: "Squash is a fantastic ambassador for Ockbrook School. It was a delight to welcome her as our guest of honour at Speech Day and to learn more about her adventures and achievements since leaving us. Her story is truly illustrative of the fact that our students can go further than their wildest expectations."

Not only has Squash summited Mount Everest, she also holds claim to be the world's highest ever ‘bumboarder', a title she gained on Cho Oyu, the sixth highest mountain in the world. Passionate about sharing her adventures, Squash has a unique and quirky outlook on life and firmly believes that with the right attitude everyone can achieve incredible things.
