Light Up a Life with Helen & Douglas House
Helen & Douglas House, the local hospice for children and young people with life-shortening conditions, would like to invite you to our special Light Up a Life concert in aid of Helen & Douglas House on Saturday November 19th at St John the Evangelist on the Iffley Road, Oxford. This community concert promises to be an evening of beautiful music and readings as well as a chance to remember and celebrate the lives of those that we have lost. At the concert there will be a chance to write the name of your loved one on a tag which will then be hung on a tree in the church, this will be a focal point during the moment of reflection, taken by Helen & Douglas House founder, Sister Frances Dominica.
There will be a wonderful mix of music this year; performers will include opera stars Christopher Purves, Rebecca Stockland & Elena Ferrari, accompanied by Richard Black on the piano. We are also lucky enough to have the Oxford Gospel Choir, the Pavlova Quintet and Rory Evans, a young upcoming guitarist, performing at the concert.
Helen & Douglas House has been caring for families in Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties for almost 30 years. Helen & Douglas House offers medically supported short breaks and end-of-life care for children and young adults with life-shortening conditions and counselling and practical support for the whole family. Their aim is to help every young person, aged from birth to 35 who visit them from Berkshire, live life to the full even when that life is short. Helen & Douglas House needs to raise £4.5m a year to run the hospice, around 80% of this is from voluntary donations.
Ellen Jardine, Community Fundraiser said “Our annual Light up a Life concert is a lovely chance to come and listen to beautiful music whilst remembering a loved one that has been lost. Hospices around the country celebrate ‘Light Up a Life’ as it can provide comfort for those who have been bereaved recently or some time ago. We hope that the concert will also increase awareness of the vital services Helen & Douglas House provide for families in Oxfordshire and the neighbouring counties.”
