The Choir of The Queen’s College Oxford

Author: hawkarine Published: 21st August 2012 13:01
The Choir of The Queen's College, Oxford is delighted to announce its UK concert tour 2012. The tour of Scotland and Northern England in September 2012 takes in some of the UK's most beautiful concert venues.

The choir will be bringing a touch of Harry Potter with it. The centre-piece of its programme will be In noctem, sung by the choir in the Warner Bros film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which gained a nomination for a Grammy award. This is a unique chance to hear music from the film alongside other works.

On the tour, the choir also presents exciting works by some of the finest contemporary composers of choral music from Scotland, England, and America, including James MacMillan, David Bednall, Eric Whitacre, and Morten Lauridsen. David Bednall, who composed the cantata Welcome all Wonders for the choir, is one of the brightest stars within the younger generation of British choral composers.
We also perform some of the finest motets of the Tudor composer William Byrd, and introduce the music of one of Byrd's greatest contemporaries from Golden-Age Portugal, Duarte Lobo, uncovered and edited by the choir's director, Owen Rees.
Leeds represents something of a return home for the choir. Director, Owen Rees, now a world-leading academic at the University of Oxford, was at Leeds Grammar School in the 70s. Three members of the current choir grew up in Leeds, indeed two (Ashley Francis-Roy and Dominic Oldfield) were members of the choir at Leeds Parish Church (as it then was).
The Choir of The Queen's College opens the Leeds Lunchtime Organ Music 2012/13 series. The choir performs in concert at Leeds Town Hall, Monday 10 September, 13:05
Queen's College also has historic links with the North of England, which we are renewing during this visit. The choir will also sing Evensong at Leeds Minster at 18:30 on Sunday 9 September.
