A NATIONAL children’s charity based in Somerset received a donation of £2,000 from Portishead Charity Events recently (February, 2015).
The donation was made to Langport-based bibic* by members of Portishead Charity Events who held a black tie and cocktail dress evening for the charity in December, 2014.
Jeanette Shipp, who helped set up Portishead Charity Events with a group of friends, said: “As a group we decided to host a fun evening with friends and family in aid of two charities that were close to our hearts. We chose The Brain Tumour Charity and bibic, which is very special to me in particular as it helped my family and our son Sammy four years ago.
“Sammy suffers with autism and learning difficulties. We arrived at bibic’s doors a family in crisis who were desperately in need of help and advice and we left with new hope and suddenly the future still looked challenging but we felt so much more positive.
“We wanted to say thank you to the charities so as a group we decided to host the event and invite our friends and families along. It was a huge success and the money raised from ticket sales and the raffle and auctions all went into the total raised for the charities. The final amount was split between the two, with each receiving £2,000.”
bibic helps children and young people aged from six months to 18-years-old with conditions affecting their development and learning abilities to achieve their potential for a happier and more fulfilled life.
These include developmental conditions such as Autism, Cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and brain injury.
Mary Matthews, Fundraising and PR Manager, said: “We are absolutely over the moon with the Portishead Charity Events’ very kind donation as it will go a very long way to helping us with the work we do with children and their families.
“We don’t receive any government funding so we rely solely on these sorts of donations. We’d like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Jeanette and everyone at the Portishead Charity Events.”
bibic has a national assessment centre located in Somerset. Its therapists work closely with families to create a therapy programme, which provides them with the skills and strategies to support their child or children.
