Dunkery Beacon makes finals of South West Tourism Awards

Author: Cherry Pullinger Published: 11th January 2017 13:44

Dunkery Beacon in Wootton Courtenay near Dunster has been named as a finalist in the Small Hotel/Boutique Accommodation of the Year category and its Coleridge Restaurant is a finalist in the Restaurant/Bistro of the Year category.

Jane Bradley, who runs the award-winning Dunkery Beacon together with her husband, John, said: “Making it to the finals of these prestigious awards is a great way to kick off the New Year. We are extremely proud of the accommodation and restaurant facilities we provide so to have these recognised is brilliant.

“We are among some fantastic company in the list of finalists and we wish everyone the best of luck at the awards ceremony.”

The awards will be presented at a black tie dinner in the Lansdown Suite at Ashton Gate Stadium in Bristol on February 2. Finalists will learn whether they have won Gold, Silver or Bronze at the ceremony.

There were 602 entries made across the South West and a team of judges undertook a record 380 visits. A hundred-and-three of the finalists have also been nominated as the South West representatives in the national VisitEngland awards.

Robin Barker, Director of Services for Tourism Ltd, which manages the awards, said: “Tourism is one of biggest and fastest growing industries in the world and is at the heart of the South West economy. Recent research has proved that investing in tourism reaps a greater economic return than virtually every other industry, not to mention contributing to the unique assets and quality of life of this fantastic region. I pay tribute to all this year’s finalists for being ‘beacons’ for the region and demonstrating just what tourism can do.”

Jane has a background in hospitality and worked in the wine industry for more than 15 years.

John has more than 25 years’ experience in catering, notching up numerous top chef roles in this country and overseas.
