Published: 16th May 2019 10:10

ABBIE Wareham from Yeovil has recently (May, 2019) been promoted to Trainee General Manager at an industrial textile sewing company in Somerset.

She joined Needles & Pins UK Ltd in Somerton in 2016 as a Junior Seamstress and is responsible for first aid and under supervision she handles procurement, production and delivery.

The 25-year-old said: “I am delighted to have been promoted to Trainee General Manager and to be carving myself out a career in the textile industry.

“My Mother and Grandmother both worked in the sewing industry. They were able to teach me everything I know, and it is an honour to be following in their footsteps.

“I have a fantastic team around me too who are incredibly supportive and my General Manager, Jean Spearpoint, is a great role model and has given me some excellent training, making me feel extremely confident about my new role while I also continue my seamstress training.”

Before joining Needles & Pins UK Ltd Abbie worked as a Senior Care Assistant and a pub manager.

In her spare time, she enjoys getting out into the countryside with her dog Indi. She loves drawing as well and has a keen interest in music and has recently taken up playing the ukulele.

She’s also currently studying for her diploma in Holistic therapies.

Needles & Pins UK Ltd is an expert, ISO 9001:2015 UKAS certified, industrial textile sewing company specialising in Ground Support Equipment for the global aviation industry.

It produces covers for everything from large aircraft to helicopters, light aircraft, cars, bicycles, motorbikes, sea/canal boats, garden furniture, tooling and industrial equipment, music speakers and instruments and more.

It is now also able to create bespoke products for members of the public using a breathable, reversible and water repellent material. The covers are long-lasting and tight-fitting and ideal for awkwardly shaped items that people might have.

Needles & Pins UK Ltd can also make repairs to covers if they are in need of new clips, Velcro or another coat of sealant.

Carole Champion, Director of Needles & Pins UK Ltd at Somerton Business Park, said: “We are all absolutely thrilled for Abbie and couldn’t think of a better person for the job. She has been a model employee in the company. Her family background within the industry and insider knowledge and speed at sewing have all led to her receiving a promotion.”

The team at Needles & Pins UK Ltd collectively has more than 40 years combined experience in industrial textile sewing. It is currently investing in the latest technology with laser 3D scanning, but still also uses traditional methods and all its products are handmade by its talented in-house seamstresses.

Carole added: “We hold patterns and make covers for all manner of helicopters, aircraft and aviation equipment, and can also produce no end of others and are specialists in all cover types.

“Our long-lasting, tight-fitting products can be found protecting vehicles, equipment, machinery and even garden furniture.”
