Somerset Chamber Choir Taunton concert - Sunday 5 Jan, 3pm
Published: 24th December 2013 12:05 |
Welcome in the New Year with Somerset Chamber Choir's concert offering a feast of music for Christmas, New Year, Epiphany and Candlemas in the atmospheric setting of the Chapel of King's College, Taunton on Sunday 5 January at 3pm.
The recipe for this feast states: Take nine well-known 19th and 20th-century carols, blend in five carol arrangements, mix with two renaissance motets, add a dash of organ music by Bach and John Cook, and sprinkle with three audience carols. Sit back and be stirred, allowing the ear to be entranced and spirits raised, then...
‘Thou shalt find the winter's rage freeze thy blood less coldly'.
The concert will include music by Bach, Berlioz, Byrd, Darke, Holst, Lassus, Morten Lauridsen, Mathias, Matthew Owens, Vaughan Williams, Judith Weir, Eric Whitacre & more, with the choir - known as one of the finest groups of singers in the region - joined by Richard Pearce (organ) and conducted by Graham Caldbeck.
Tickets (priced £11, £15, £18) are available online at www.somersetchamberchoir.org.uk, from Taunton TIC: 01823 336344 or at the door
