Humphries Kirk supports Pathways to Law educational programme

Published: 8th July 2019 10:46

Staff from leading law firm Humphries Kirk's office in Crewkerne have worked alongside the University of Exeter as part of Pathways to Law. The Scheme was established in 2006 by the Sutton Trust and the Legal Education Foundation to widen access to the legal profession.

The national initiative aims to inspire and support students from all backgrounds who are interested in pursuing a legal career and who otherwise would feel that this was out of their reach.

Laura Staples, partner and joint head of private client services, commented: "When we heard about the Pathways to Law initiative, we knew we had to get involved. As a firm we believe it is vital to not only nurture the next generation of talent coming up through the industry, but to ensure that opportunities are available for everyone. All of those within the firm who assisted with the Pathways to Law programme were struck with the enthusiasm and ability of the students."

Humphries Kirk supported Cameron, a student, over a course of 15 months and assisted with engagement in academic and skill sessions and provided work experience within the firm. Attending his recent graduation, the firm was thrilled to find out that he has been offered a place to read law at Exeter this coming September.

More recently, they hosted Steph on work experience, Laura added: "Steph is an amazingly dedicated student, and we look forward to watching her progress to graduation from the programme in spring 2020."

The Pathways to Law programme is offered by 12 universities, including Exeter University. This year's graduates are nationally the 11th from the scheme and the University's fifth. The Pathways to Law team at Exeter is led by Kate Blackmore who offers full support, not only to the students, but also to the legal partners who take part.
