THE OWNERS of Dunkery Beacon Country House Hotel are celebrating after it was named as a finalist in the Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards (October, 2019).
The country house hotel is a finalist in the Small Hotel of the Year Category and its Coleridge Restaurant is a finalist in the Restaurant/Bistro of the Year Category.
John Bradley, who runs the multi-award-winning hotel with his wife Jane, said: “We are thrilled to have reached the finals in these prestigious awards for both the hotel and the restaurant. We work hard to deliver the very best hospitality and food for our guests, so to receive this recognition is brilliant.
“We are extremely proud of the accommodation and restaurant facilities we provide and are very much looking forward to see if we have scooped top place in these two categories at the awards ceremony in November.
“We are among some fantastic company in the list of finalists and would like to wish everyone the very best of luck at the event in Bristol next month.”
The Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards are sponsored by NFU Mutual Clifton and Wrington. The winners will be announced by Laura Rawlings from BBC Bristol at a dinner at the Bristol Marriot Hotel City Centre on November 21.
One hundred and forty-two entries were received from across Somerset, with a record 82 finalists who will have to wait until the awards ceremony when they will learn whether they have won Gold, Silver or Bronze. A further 15 receive commended status.
This year’s competition has seen many changes including new entry forms, new processes and a closer-than-ever link with the regional South West and national VisitEngland Awards. Judging has also changed with an increased focus on digital presence and evidence.
John has more than 27 years’ experience in catering, notching up numerous top chef roles in this country and overseas.
Jane also has a background in hospitality and worked in the wine industry for more than 15 years.
John continued: “We pride ourselves on offering luxury accommodation for those wishing to escape the humdrum of day-to-day life and to unwind in a truly tranquil location with stunning scenery all around.
“Our award-winning Coleridge Restaurant offers relaxed yet classic dining with a seasonally changing, à la carte menu and a focus on locally-sourced produce and our wine list is supplied by top London merchants, Berry Bros. & Rudd and Christopher Piper Wines in Ottery St Mary, Devon. We’re the only establishment in the area to offer such a sophisticated selection of wines to diners.
“We use as much local, seasonal produce as possible including Exmoor honey, eggs, pork and even offers Exmoor roasted coffee and blended tea.
“Also on the menu is sea bass, bream, trout, cod and scallops from the nearby Devon coast – Exmoor straddles both Somerset and Devon.”
