Design-a-doughnut for the Queen’s Jubilee

SOMERSET residents are invited this month to submit designs for a regal doughnut to win a competition to see their creation crowned as June’s Jubilee Doughnut of The Month at an award-winning farm shop (April 2022).
Rumwell Farm Shop & Café on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington is asking people to suggest ideas and the best one will be created to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Joint Owner of the Farm Shop, Anne Mitchell says: “Our bespoke and traditional doughnuts, which our team of bakers make onsite, have been hugely popular since we started making them a few years ago, so we thought we would have some fun and run a competition to create a Jubilee doughnut fit for royalty.
“We’re asking adults and children to come up with a unique doughnut filling and submit them to us. The winner will have their doughnut made and sold in our Bakery throughout June.
“We want to see some really regal and original doughnut filling ideas. Entries, including drawing and any recipes, can be submitted via email to chris@rumwellfarmshop.com and should be sent to us by 5pm on Saturday, May 14.
“A winner will be picked and announced on our social media pages on May 16. They will also receive 12 doughnuts of their choice and be asked to collect their prize, and have their photos taken for publicity, including social media, before the end of May at a mutually agreeable time. Children who enter need to have their submissions sent in by their parents or guardians and they will need to give permission for publicity.”
Rumwell Farm Shop is an independent, family-run, award-winning business owned by the Mitchell family. Originally a potato store, David and Anne Mitchell began selling their potatoes and free-range eggs at the gate 25 years ago.
Due to customer demand, the range of products soon increased, and the farm shop grew into the place it is today. David and Anne’s sons, James and Jack, are now also involved in the business, as well as daughters-in-law Sophie and Donna.
Rumwell Farm Shop has a traditional Butchery counter selling its home-reared and free-range pork and Rumwell Angus beef. There is also The Rumwell Flower Shed on-site, a Delicatessen, Bakery, Jam Kitchen, Food Hall, Wine Cellar and Gift Room.
The Rumwell Café is a large and spacious building. The food prepared in the Café kitchen is sourced from the Farm Shop, the Mitchell family farm, which is just four miles away, and other regional suppliers.
Families are welcome to the Café and there is a menu especially for children. It also serves afternoon teas, roast Sunday lunches and is licensed to sell alcoholic beverages.
