Young Readers Invited to Take the Mythical Challenge this Summer

Author: Peter Elliott Published: 15th July 2014 08:36

adult and child reading a bookSomerset's libraries are inviting children to find their way through the Mythical Maze Summer Reading Challenge.

To take part in the challenge, children collect stickers (some of which are very smelly) and fill in a Mythical Maze poster.

Everyone who completes the challenge by reading six books throughout the summer will receive a certificate and a unique Reading Challenge Medal. They will also be entered into a prize draw to win some amazing prizes, including day trips to Wookey Hole and @Bristol.

Cllr David Hall, Somerset County Council's Cabinet Member with responsibility for Libraries, said "We're delighted that we can participate in this national challenge to encourage children to keep reading. Last summer more than 7,000 children visited libraries in Somerset to join in with the challenge and it's a great opportunity to work with schools and families to encourage children to develop a love of reading."

Young readers can also go on the website www.mythical-maze.org.uk  to create a profile, chat about books, and play games. A free mobile app has also been developed to encourage children to get involved. To download yours, just go to iTunes and search for Mythical Maze.

The Mythical Maze Summer Reading Challenge, which is free to join, runs from Saturday 12 July until Saturday 13 September.
