Free foot clinic with expert podiatrist

SOMERSET walkers, hikers and climbers can have their feet checked over by a qualified podiatrist at a free foot clinic in Taunton this month (June 2019).
Alastair Oxberry from The Foot and Gait Clinic will be at Taunton Leisure on East Reach on June 29 from 2-5pm offering complimentary advice to anyone interested in finding out more.
Store Manager, Bill Atkinson, who is an experienced hiker, explained: “We’re delighted that Alastair, who qualified from the University of Plymouth in 2018 with a Bsc (Hons) in Podiatry, is able give up his time to host this free event for us.
“As we’re all keen outdoor enthusiasts here, we understand the importance of having the right equipment, including footwear, so your feet are both comfortable and protected.
“If you suffer from reoccurring foot, leg, knee or even back pain whilst out walking there might be a solution. You don’t have to accept that pain and discomfort is the norm when so many issues can be easily resolved with correctly fitting footwear with appropriate support.
“We’re well-known in the area for offering free expert advice on the right boots or shoes people need for the activities they enjoy in the great outdoors and for taking the time to fit footwear properly.
“With Alastair on site for the day, we’ll be able to go that extra mile and he’ll be able to complement the service we offer including giving advice on general foot treatments and chatting to people about the biomechanics of musculoskeletal problems. The Foot and Gait Clinic on Bridge Street in Taunton started more than 30 years ago and has built-up good working relationships with osteopaths, physiotherapists, chiropractors and sports’ massage therapists. It also runs external clinics including some at nearby GP practices.
Taunton Leisure’s in-store experts can advise on the brands available for wide, narrow and average feet, and provide a free fitting service to ensure they fit perfectly too.
