Why most diets don't work
We at Top Notch Living are so passionate about good health and nutrition that we could wax lyrical about detoxing and achieving a healthy weight. In this article we'll look at why most diets don't work and give you a few pointers to kick start your New Year.
Healthy eating is a lifestyle
The key to successful weight loss is an enjoyable and energising lifestyle change. Many diets are undertaken as a temporary or ‘quick-fix' effort. This means that during the diet you are not eating the way you will continue to eat long term.
Diets can be downers
The very idea of a diet is a downer to some people. This can lead to ‘yo-yo dieting' which studies have found to be dangerous. For best results both a new menu and a new mindset are required; you are doing something positive to change your shape, size and health.
Diets slow your metabolism
It's fair to say that ‘calorie counting' isn't the best strategy. Your body reacts to fewer calories by slowing your metabolism and therefore burning fewer calories. If you don't exercise alongside your diet, then your body will lose muscle mass and store fat as a reserve. With less muscle, your metabolism slows even further and you'd need to eat even fewer calories to lose weight. The exercise does not have to be a huge exertion, just two lots of 15 minutes exercise a day could be enough.
Correct Nutrients
Fad diets can be unhealthy because they may not provide all the nutrients your body needs. If your body is lacking nutrients it will make you hungry in the hope you'll eat something containing the nutrients it needs.
So how can Top Notch Living help?
A great way to start losing weight is to detox. Toxins attach themselves to fat cells and protect them from being expelled from the body. For most people looking to lose weight we help them start with a detox programme. The average body stores 5 to 10lbs of toxins, so flushing these out starts the weight loss process.
The most important part of healthy weight loss is good nutrition. We help people use natural products that provide the nutrients that the body needs to help it cleanse and burn fat, and naturally satisfy the appetite during the detox phase.
We also provide advice on healthy meals. Some dieters ‘save up' their calorie allowance so they can have a burger and chips for dinner. 600 calories made up of burger and chips is not of the same benefit to your body as 600 calories of fresh vegetables and lean protein! Calories just measure the energy in the food, not the quality of the food, so it is important to eat fresh, balanced meals.
Another vital thing we offer is support. This plays a big part in people succeeding to get into a healthy routine and reach their healthy weight.
