The season is now well and truely over concluding with a wonderful day at Newmarket races last saturday and the six a side at Botany Bay on Sunday.

It was cracking day at Newmarket well supported by many people and I would like to thank Sharon and Andy Holness for another great day. We look forward to October 2014.

Sunday also saw Sudbury finish on a high. Jon Hicks supplied the breakfast at Painters restaurant. Filled up his motor and took 7 of or finest lads to Enfield. They were victorious winning all their matches and winning the Botany Bax 7 a side tournament 2013. Some silverware for the bar. Well done.

You only get stronger by learning from defeat. Looking back it was the tightest and most exciting premier league for years with the title and relegation going down to the last match of the season. We can learn a not from the season take out the positives and come back stronger next year to try and get straight back to the East Anglian Premier league.

The mood is positive and the lads want to get straight back up there. A few years ago we were debating if it was wise to go into the EAPL. I can safely say its been a great 3 years people in the town and around the club have loved it and it really has improved many of our players. We now have 3 regular minor counties players and plenty of Suffolk regulars.

We probably had the youngest side in the EAPL and pretty much had home grown Sudbury players bar a couple..

So we know where we want to be and it will be great to emulate Norwich and get back into the EAPL as soon as possible..

Some great highlights of the season for me

  • Who can forget the win at Clacton watching it on line! Adam and Jandre superb
  • Matt Pears 1000 league runs
  • Alan Macdiarmid what an all round performance 48 wickets and over 600 runs!
  • 3rd team securing Division 6 Cricket assisted by many juniors
  • A superb record cricket week despite 2 rain offs
  • Great to see Rajeev Seth back at the club
  • Another great year for the juniors
  • Cheese and Wine Night, casino night advertisers night
  • Who could forget Antony Myers what a voice
  • Pete Siegert taking 15 league wickets!!!!!!!!!!!

Some great moments we look forward to carrying that great club spirit through to 2014.

So for me the season starts now. Fixture Card, Sponsors, Coaches, Overseason work, and the annual dinner. The busy season starts now and much planning and work is already under way for 2014.

That leads me in nicely to confirm the 2014 annual dinner will take place on Friday March the 7th at the Masonic Hall North Street Sudbury. Again the finest venue in town with a cracking night ahead. I am pleased to announce this years speaker will be Matthew Hoggard MBE. An English hero part of the Ashes winning 2005 team and only recently announced his retirement from the game with his final spell at Leicesterhsire. You may have also seen him recently on master chef!

So things are moving forward already. I will be sending out further details on the dinner but please put in the diary now. It will be a cracker.

XMAS do to be announced soon, winter nets dates will be out soon and time to start putting into the place your winter fitness campaign.

Congratulations also to Guy Robins who is soon to be wed in October to Claudia. Hope all goes well Guy.

Finally thanks to the Keith Martin Group for their help and Support this year and all our club sponsors and advertisers. Without you we couldn't function and there would be no Sudbury CC. We really do appreciate it. Work now commences for 2014...

So a truly memorable season one I wont forget for a while and for me we are all very lucky to enjoy a wonderful club in a wonderful part of the world. Every season is a good one... Looking forward to 2014 and a big campaign in the two counties and another cracking social year.

Thanks to Andy Doods, Dave Oakes, Andy Holness & Ivan Whitehart for all their help on the ground also.

All the best
