Nethergate Beer Used in Local Produce
Recipe for Success, from Sudbury to Lavenham
Nethergate Brewery has teamed up with local businesses in Sudbury and Lavenham in Suffolk with the aim of forming creative partnerships with some of the amazing local producers and food artisans available in the Sudbury area.
The brewery, known for creating quality, award-winning ales for over 28 years has always been a keen supporter of promoting the versatility of beer in other areas of the food market.
There is one Nethergate ale in particular that is being used as the muse to create a myriad of treats and surprises across the local food and drink sector. Nethergate’s Old Growler Porter, twice Champion Winter Beer of Great Britain is the perfect ale for, well a lot of things it seems.
Dan Hills – Sales and Marketing Manager from Nethergate remarked, "For the team at the brewery, nothing gives us more joy than seeing our ale bring something extra to the table – more than just a fantastic pint of beer. We thought it a great idea to discuss its potential use with local food producers, to see how far we can push its versatility and explore interesting marriages of flavour”.
One timeless marriage with beer is with robust, meaty flavours and that’s where the partnership between Nethergate Brewery and Lavenham Butchers started. Lavenham Butchers, run by Greg Strolenberg and Gareth Doherty are strong campaigners for local, quality produce with their meat coming predominantly from farms in the surrounding Suffolk countryside.
Greg from Lavenham Butchers remarked,
‘We are passionate about supporting and showcasing fabulous products produced in this region. Nethergate’s Old Growler porter is the perfect dark ale for use in our beef and venison pies and we are looking at other great ways to use it to enhance our amazing produce”.
Another partnership struck was between Nethergate and the talented Chocolatiers of Marimba in Sudbury. A range of handmade chocolates using the Old Growler porter have been conceived and are going down very well.
Dan From Nethergate says, "The bitterness of the quality dark chocolate complements the fruitiness and roasted barley of the porter amazingly well. Our new brewery shop is so happy to stock them”.
With Cole’s Puddings from Saffron Walden already making exquisite Christmas Puddings using Old Growler; the brewery are readily exploring recipes for Ice cream, cheeses, artisan breads and chutneys amongst other intriguing flavour combinations for 2015.
