 Jill Morton, soloist

Sudbury Symphony Orchestra at St Peters, Sudbury, 28th March 2015

Sudbury Symphony Orchestra’s next concert features Rachmaninoff's glorious 2nd Piano concerto. “For me, it's the greatest piano concerto ever written, with an amazing melody that lodges in your brain for days and days. It is just achingly beautiful." according to Darren Henley of Classic FM. The piano will be the biggest and heaviest ever in Sudbury.

Our brilliant solo pianist is Jill Morton who some of you may remember played Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue with us last June. We also accompanied her playing Grieg's Piano Concerto in November 2008. Beethoven's symphonies are always good and this time we are playing his 4th.

Superficially, it is one of the most conventional of his nine symphonies in that it contains both the slow introduction favoured by Mozart and Haydn in their later years and a scherzo that Beethoven jokingly described as a minuet. But within this relatively conservative framework he explores a far wider range of mood and colour than did either of his two great predecessors.

The Details of the concert are:
