 Badger spotting

Badgers, Assington Mill, Sudbury, 22nd May

Spend an afternoon and evening learning about the life cycle and habits of badgers, how to tell a badger sett from a rabbit hole and how to watch them in the wild.

The course starts off with an illustrated talk, followed by a two hour leisurely walk over rough country around Assington Mill farm where you will be shown identifying features such as footprints, dung pits and setts.

After a big high tea in the farmhouse kitchen, we will dress up warmly for an evening in the woods waiting for the badgers to emerge.  This involves standing still and not talking or moving for about an hour or more, but we can bring stools if necessary.  Obviously we cannot guarantee that you will see a badger, but most people find just the experience of standing quietly in a wood and listening to the birdsong at the end of the day almost as rewarding.  And May is the time to see the cubs, and they are not as wary of humans as the adults.

If you find this course fully booked, do ring 01787 229955 and put yourself on the reserve list in case people have to drop out at the last minute.

Comments from previous attendees:

Thank you both so very much for a most interesting and totally enjoyableafternoon/evening immersed in your kind hospitality. We both learnt so much about Badgers. It was marvellous to be rewarded for our patience to actually see a badger....who we have named Baloo....delighting us all with a very amusing scratching display. We could not believe just how big it was and how it just seemed to 'shoot' out of the hole/set.  It was a most wonderful day and one we would heartily recommend.  Thanking you both once again.  Linda & Barry K.

A lifetime first!  One and a half badgers is (are) a very good staret, and now I know what to look out for.  Andy S.

Fantastic day, really informative and great fun.  Amazed how hard it is to keep still when watching!  Highly recommended.  Chris E.

Loved it!  Very well organised, but still very relaxed.  Saw hare, deer and badger.  Would recommend it to others.  Julie S.
