Exhibition of works by Sir Edward Seago, Bonhams on 8th - 9th June
Edward Seago is surely one of East Anglia’s finest artists, following in the artistic tradition forged by Gainsborough, Constable and Munnings. Bonhams’ auctioneers have collected an exceptional group of works by Seago and have taken the opportunity of returning the paintings to the artist’s old stomping ground, prior to their sale in Bonhams’ auction of British Impressionist Art on 23rd June in Bond Street, London.
The collection includes exceptional examples of Seago’s East Anglian landscapes such as ‘Low tide, Blakeney’ estimated at £30,000-50,000 and ‘Spritsail barge on the River Orwell’ estimated at £25,000-35,000. Also included in the group is one of the most sought after Seago subjects, a Hong Kong harbour view estimated at £40,000-60,000.
All the paintings will be available to view in Bonhams’ Suffolk office at 21 Churchgate Street, Bury St Edmunds on Friday 5th, Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th June from 10am-4pm. They will hang alongside selected highlights from Bonhams’ forthcoming sale of East Anglian Art, including works by Alfred Munnings, Harry Becker, John Nash and Campbell Mellon.
A dedicated painting valuation day will be held in the Bury St Edmunds office on Friday 5th June to coincide with the exhibition when Bonhams’ picture specialist Daniel Wright will hope to uncover further local masterpieces.
