Fieldwalking session, Mount Bures, 10th - 11th October
Last week's Goldingham Hall excavation was another successful event. The finds have now all been processed (thank you Julie and team) and will be going off to Cambridge with the paperwork (thanks Aldous) to be processed and identified so the report of the last three years can be written. This report will be our permanent record of what we've uncovered at Goldingham and I for one can't wait to see how all of the pieces fit together! And, thanks so much to Ashley for his tour of the next area of the site which holds new mysteries for us to uncover.
Meanwhile, we will be holding a Fieldwalking session in Mount Bures, Saturday and Sunday 10-11 October. The motte at Mount Bures was excavated by Managing a Masterpiece in 2011 and, indeed, is where many of us met. This Fieldwalking event has been organised by SVCA member, Dave Dignum, and is focusing on the field north of the motte. This will be the first Fieldwalking event for SVCA and we will also be doing some metal detecting on a concentrated area. Archaeologically, it will be interesting to see how this field relates to the time of the building of the motte. Who knows what this could lead to!?!
If you would like to join in with this fieldwalking project, please let me know. I will send out specifics nearer the time (I'm waiting on confirmation from the village hall) but both days will run approx. 10am - 4pm. You are more than welcome to attend for one or both days and training will be given. We have done so many varied things as a group and I think this experience will be yet another string to our archaeological bow.
We will be gridding out the field on Friday, 9th October. If you're able to join us then, please let me know. Any help would be most appreciated.
One last note, our AGM will be held on Friday 13 November at Lavenham Village Hall. There will be a licensed bar and our guest speaker will be Professor Carenza Lewis. I will send out additional details and an agenda nearer the time, but I'd love to see you all there.
