Calligraphy for beginners, Assington Mill, Sudbury, 30th October 2016
A one-day course at Assington Mill.
A day to discover the pleasure of writing with the broad-edged pen.
We will look at historic calligraphy in the form of beautiful St.Cuthbert Gospel, from the Wearmouth-Jarrow monastery, written by an accomplished scribe sometime before 716 AD, [almost 1300 years ago].
After practising calligraphy techniques, we will adjust a few elements of this Uncial script to make it more modern, then write out a short quotation.
For those who already have some knowledge of this script we can explore some of the many variations, maybe draw some letters for painting and decoration, and perhaps even add some gold.
£85 including home-made lunch, biscuits and cakes.
