Invitation to rural crime prevention day, 24th October

There’s the chance to get information and advice at a Rural Crime Prevention Day being held at Campsea Ashe Auction Rooms this weekend.

The event is being organised to run alongside a farm machinery auction day at the venue on Saturday 24 October and will see officers on hand between 8am and 5pm to give crime reduction information in a bid to raise awareness of the steps that can be taken to prevent thefts and other rural crimes.

Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner Tim Passmore is also expected to attend between 10am and 11am to lend his support to the crime prevention message, and Suffolk’s leading rural crime officer PC Mark Bryant is likely to be at the venue for part of the day, giving those in the farming community a chance to have a chat about any issues of concern.

PCSO Graeme Hawkes, from the Woodbridge & District Safer Neighbourhood Team, who is helping organise the crime prevention event, said the farm machinery auction day provided a good opportunity for interaction between police and the rural community.

"We look forward to speaking to those who are coming along to the auction day and anyone else who would like to get crime reduction advice. We know these days are popular and thought this would be the ideal occasion  to meet up with those at the heart of our rural communities to give everyone the chance for a chat and to promote awareness of steps that can be taken to prevent crime.”

Tim Passmore said: "Suffolk, very rightly, has a reputation as a beautiful rural county with low crime levels and it is vital that this reputation is maintained; this is why combatting rural crime is a top priority in my Police and Crime Plan.

"Since my election we have invested in a policing team to specifically target rural crime and they are making great progress in both dealing with crime and offering crime prevention advice to our rural communities.

"I encourage our farming community to attend the event on Saturday to pick up some useful information to help them to protect themselves and their businesses.”

All are welcome to attend and you’ll be able to get more information about the work being done to tackle rural crime as well as picking up tips to help you protect your property.
