Lavenham Literary Weekend Festival, 13th - 15th November

There are many good reasons to get to Lavenham early for the Festival. Please see the ‘Plan Your Visit’  tab on the website to find links to information about our special village and for things to do and see before and after your visit to the Village Hall for the Festival.

The ‘Getting Here’ section should help you to find us but, please be aware that the car park nearest to the Village Hall (entrance opposite the Church and alongside the newly refurbished and recently re-opened ‘Cock Horse’ pub and restaurant) is likely to be very busy. Parking elsewhere will require a longer walk, so please factor that into your plans.

Unfortunately, engineering works are planned over the weekend on the Greater Anglia mainline between London Liverpool Street and Norwich and this needs to be taken into account.

As on the last occasion, the Friends of Lavenham Library will be offering tea, coffee and biscuits/cake in the Village Hall between 11 am and noon on both days and between 4pm and 5pm on the Saturday.

There are also a number of cafes, pubs and restaurants in the village.

APPROACHING 90% TICKET SALES!

BUT THERE’S STILL TIME TO BE PART OF LAVENHAM’S SPECIAL LITERARY WEEKEND

Tickets are selling fast but you can still hear Andrew Lownie on his highly acclaimed biography of ‘Cambridge spy, Guy Burgess – Stalin’s Englishman’ described by The Daily Telegraph as ‘superb, more riveting than any spy novel’

Toby Buchan will be marking the centenary of the legendary Thirty Nine Steps. Written by his grandfather, John Buchan, and first published  in 1915, this novel has never been out of print.

Best selling author Rachel Joyce will introduce us to her latest book, due out this month, ‘A Snow Garden’.

John Higgs opens our Festival in the wonderful surroundings of Lavenham Guildhall on Friday 13 November. John’s latest book takes us on a fascinating journey, to help us make sense of the twentieth century in Stranger Than We Can Imagine. THIS SESSION IS NOW SOLD OUT.

Booking for any of these sessions is easy, through The Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds – www.theatreroyal.org. Tel: 01284 769505.

The Theatre Royal booking office will stop selling tickets for the Festival at 12 noon on Friday 13 November. Unsold tickets will be available at the Enquiry Office in the Village Hall from 9 am on Saturday 14th (Tel: 07582 239289 for up to date information).

‘STALIN’S ENGLISHMAN’ TO BRING DOWN THE CURTAIN ON FESTIVAL

Fittingly, Andrew Lownie’s much awaited talk about his biography of Guy Burgess will bring down the curtain (but not the iron variety!) on this year’s festival.

The Festival will close at lunchtime on Sunday 15 November and before too long planning will start on the fifth Lavenham Literary Festival in November 2017. And, judging by the past two years, that will come sooner than we think!

TOM HOLLAND – ADDITIONAL BOOK SIGNING

As part of Festival Saturday (14 November), historian and acclaimed author, Tom Holland, will be signing copies of his latest book, Dynasty, at the Village Hall, Lavenham from 11 am until approximately 12 noon.

Copies of his book will be available to purchase and there is no charge for this event.

THE FESTIVAL COMES TO LAVENHAM COMMUNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL

During the week leading up to the Festival , storyteller Marion Leeper will spend a day at the school, as part of the Festival’s continuing programme of involving readers of all ages in  the brilliant world of books

Marion has a well deserved reputation as a storyteller and author who understands how to fire children’s imaginations.

Who knows – Marion may well help us to unearth a future Literary Festival speaker!!
