Sudbury Symphony Orchestra Sunday 20th March 2016

Sudbury Symphony Orchestra's next concert features Dvorák's No. 6 Symphony in D Major and Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto in E flat major.

The Czech composer's 6th symphony was written in 1880 and shows his profound admiration and love of both Brahms and Wagner but yet the symphony always retains its Czech roots. While the first two movement reference the German composers, the final movement is unashamedly Czech, taking the ideas explored in his Slavonic Dances to an entirely new plane. This is an exciting symphony by a master composer.

Beethoven's 5th and last piano concerto, was soon nicknamed the Emperor by early concert goers due to its grand and majestic style. It mixes this with some very lyrical and tender passages and ends in jubilant and dance like form. For this piece we welcome back our soloist for the evening, concert pianist Jill Morton. Her passionate and sophisticated playing will make the evening's performance truly one to be remembered.

As at the previous concert, we have kept to the time of 6.00pm and hope you will be able to join us to get your evening off to a dramatically melodious start.
