 Crochet

Crochet for Beginners, Assington Mill, Sudbury, 21st January 2017

Crochet is a process of creating a fabric by interlocking threads of yarn, wool, cotton or other materials using a specialised hook.Crochet came to Europe in the early 1800s and its name is taken from the french word “crochet,” meaning a small hook. In times gone by, these were made from bone, but the commercially ones produced today are of metal and plastic, although you may find wooden ones in artisan workshops.

This crochet for beginners course will include a crochet hook, wool, handouts for further reference, and a pattern. You will learn the basic stitches and techniques retired to make varying shapes and therefore enable you to construct a garment when you have has some more practise.

Crochet is becoming more popular and is a craft that produces beautiful projects for family and friends.

Comments from past students:

  • Fantastic course.  Would be very interested in doing more crochet.
  • Once you get the hang of the stitches, it becomes very addictive and, I am told, something you can do in front of the TV or the radio.  Very helpful tutor and assistant.  Using crochet stitches, I am now mending the net I used to catch an injured sparrowhawk - she wouldn't leave go!

  • Many thanks for a truly brilliant day.  It was a wonderfully relaxing day with an inspiring tutor.  I think it would work well as a two day course, a beginners day and then perhaps another day where we are taught a little bit more.  The venue was gorgeous and the food was superb.  I was made to feel very welcome.  Everyone was very friendly.  Frances C.
  • Many thanks for e mailing me re the wool we used on the course, it is so beautiful and soft. I will look at baby wool. Thank you for a wonderful, inspirational day, I really enjoyed it. I have been practising! It's very addictive!
