Drop-in sessions to support people with mental health issues to be launched

A wide-reaching charity is launching a number of drop-in sessions at libraries across Suffolk to support people with mental ill health and emotional problems.

The sessions are being launched by the Suffolk User Forum (SUF) a service user led charity promoting emotional and mental health wellbeing. In 2016/17 it supported 3,846 people with mental health issues.

The drop-in sessions will be held between April and June and are expected to help many people in distress.

Tina Pointon, a service user lead for SUF, said: "These drop-in sessions will support many people suffering with mental ill health and emotional problems.

"Many of our service users do not know which way to turn until they engage with us. During the drop-in sessions we can direct people to the most appropriate organisations or facilities to support them with their needs whatever they may be.

"During the drop-in sessions we will be able to support people with a wide range of needs, including suicide crisis, care planning, psychiatric liaison, self-care and even homelessness.

"With the well documented issues with front line mental health services in Suffolk, such as the closure of the Lark Ward in Ipswich, these sessions are being delivered at the perfect time. We would like to remind people struggling with emotional issues that there is no need to suffer alone."

The library drop-in sessions are being held at:

· Beccles Library, April 19, 10.30pm - noon

· Felixstowe Library, May 2, 10.30am -noon

· Leiston Library, May 15, 1.30pm - 3pm

· Haverhill Library, May 17, 10.30am - noon

· Capel St Mary Library, June 14, 10.30am - noon

· Woodbridge, June 26, 10.30 - noon
