Sudbury Casino night to raise hundreds of pounds for in demand emotional well-being charity

A popular Sudbury pub is holding a casino night as part of its ongoing support for a growing local charity.

Last month the Prince of Wales pub, Sudbury, launched a six-month campaign to raise hundreds of pounds for the local Just Talk Campaign.

The Just Talk Campaign, which recently received official registered charitable status, offers support to people needing help with emotional and mental health issues. It was launched by leading psychotherapist Glenda Roberts in 2016 following a number of suicides in the Sudbury area.

The pub - which has invested thousands of pounds in a bid to become the town's premier venue for sporting events - has been donating 5p for every drink sold during every live televised sporting events.

Now, the pub is staging a casino night to raise even more money towards the campaign.

Duncan Tuhey, landlord at the Prince of Wales, said: "We are delighted to announce the casino night as part of our continued support for the Just Talk Campaign, a cause we really believe in.

"We have already started raising money during the sports events and we are hoping the casino night will raise a significant amount of money. The last time we held a casino night we raised around £500 and we are hoping for a similar amount this time.

"We are looking for volunteer croupiers on the night so if anyone is able to help we ask them to kindly get in touch with us."

The casino night being held on Friday, March 30 (Good Friday) will consist of full-sized roulette black jack and poker tables. For just £5 players will be given £100 worth of chips to play with. There will be a £100 cash first prize, a £50 drinks voucher second prize and a bottle of prosecco third prize. There will also be a special prize for the best dressed person, a free buffet and special offers on casino cocktails. The event will start at 8.30pm and no booking is required.

The Just Talk Campaign holds free monthly drop-in sessions where people can discuss any problem they may have in confidence without needing to book an appointment. The campaign also offers affordable one-to-one counselling services. The charity has already helped many local people, some who were suicidal, to cope with their problems. We are being inundated with people seeking our support through the campaign.

Ms Roberts, who also runs the ExploringU Wellbeing Centre based in Sudbury said: "We are so grateful to the Prince of Wales for its continued support and we hope many people come out and support the casino night. By working closely with community partners such as the Prince of Wales we hope we can reach out to and support many more local people. We believe everyone has the right to be heard and to have someone they can trust. We offer a safe and friendly environment where people of any age or background can come and talk freely about any issue they may have."

The next Just Talk drop-in session is being held on Saturday, March 31, between 10am and 2pm at the Stour Valley Business Centre, Brundon Lane, Sudbury.
