 Restart a Heart

Last few weeks to register your school for Restart A Heart Day 2019

The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) is reminding all secondary schools in the region to sign up to a lifesaving lesson as part of Restart a Heart Day.

Staff and volunteers from EEAST will come to the schools on Restart A Heart day, held on Wednesday, 16th October and teach students the essential life-saving skill cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and also show them how to use a defibrillator.

The event is open to all secondary schools in the East of England who wish to take part. Schools must have registered with the ambulance service before 24th July to take part.

This annual event involves every ambulance service in the UK, the Resuscitation Council, the British Heart Foundation, British Red Cross and St John Ambulance.

Last year, more than 200,000 children and young people across the country learnt CPR on Restart a Heart Day.

About 30,000 people go into cardiac arrest outside of hospital in the UK every year. The chances of surviving a cardiac arrest drop 10 per cent a minute if CPR is not started, and survival rates are less than one in 10 people in this country.

Andrew Barlow, Community Response Manager at EEAST, said: "Every year we take part in the country's biggest mass CPR training event and we're very proud to be continuing to do our part as this event goes global.

"We want to visit as many schools as possible so that we can teach this important and life-saving skill to as many people as we can."

"It only takes a minute to fill out the application form to get involved, which helps to equip the next generation of lifesavers with the vital CPR skills and give them the confidence to help should the need arise."

School's wishing to sign up and get involved should complete the online sign up form here.
