Benslow Music today announces its first ever Summer Music Festival. During a six week period from 8 July onwards nine exciting, entertaining and moving concerts given by top-ranking musicians take place at Benslow Music's Morrison Hall in Benslow Lane, Hitchin. The programmes feature everything from late sixteenth century music for viols to new and recent works composed by Master of the Queen's Music and President of Benslow Music Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, who will be at Benslow to hear his own work, and up and coming composer Rachel Lockwood, the world premiere of whose String Quartet will be heard on 12 July. There are song recitals, chamber music evenings and on 28 July, as the climax of the Hitchin Festival, Benslow's popular annual fixture A Night of Jazz, with star trumpeter Paul Eshelby.
Entrance for most concerts is just £10 (£7 concessions), with top prices being £12 (£9 concessions). Benslow Music is offering subscription deals of 7 concerts for the price of 5 or 4 concerts for the price of 3 for those concerts priced in the lower price category. Students can come for free to all but A Night of Jazz, and all people aged between 8 and 25 gain free entrance for selected concerts, thanks to sponsorship from the Cavatina Chamber Music Trust.
