Tick-ety-not-so-boo....
Well, the Skylarks are singing, the grass is high and walkies are even more fun, fun, fun, as I spend my mornings chasing furry things through the meadows...ah bliss...
Except that last week, I took on board a little passenger...
I hadn't even noticed, but as Hu-Mum was giving me the usual once-over after a particularly delightful bounce around the field one morning, she gave a hearty shriek and I knew at once that SOMETHING was UP!
The something in question was a TICK - euchhh, have you seen one? Turned even my stomach, and I eat horse poo...
The little vampire had buried it's nasty little head in but hadn't yet started draining my life force, so Hu-Mum and I high-tailed it down to my personal physician to buy a nifty little device called a Tick Twister, which whips the blighters out without hurting the victim or leaving the mouth parts in. There's even a video to show you how! It's really important not to squeeze the nasty whilst getting it out, or use the old-fashioned methods of alcohol, or even burning it off - it makes the tick regurgitate its stomach contents (yucky), so spreading any diseases it might have.
May seem a bit of a fuss about nothing, but ticks carry a nasty disease called Lyme's Disease which your Hu-Mum can get - imagine that!!! It has all sorts of symptoms from tiredness, chills, fever and headaches to severe nervous system problems, so not fun at all.
I shall be watching where I shove my head from now on...
