Students Showcase Talent at Derby Theatre

Students of Ockbrook School, in Derbyshire, will next month perform their production of Blackout, by Scottish writer Davey Anderson, on the professional stage at Derby Theatre as part of the National Theatre's ‘Connections' Festival.
Lauded as ‘the biggest youth theatre festival on the planet', National Theatre's ‘Connections' develops young people's skills in acting, technical and stage management and facilitates exciting productions of leading playwrights' work.
Ockbrook School's production of Blackout is one of 12 plays for the National Theatre's ‘Connections' Festival in 2016. Inspired by the true story of a young offender from Glasgow who had committed a violent crime, it's a hard-hitting play about getting bullied, fighting back, trying to make a name for yourself, turning vicious, doing something stupid, losing everything, then finding your way again.
Sarah West, Head of Drama at Ockbrook School, said: "'The students are so excited about performing as a professional company on such a prestigious stage. Former students have returned to Ockbrook to be a part of this unique opportunity and have been working hard alongside a brilliant student team of actors and technicians."
Following 20 weeks of rehearsals and taking into account the National Theatre feedback, Ockbrook School Drama Club will perform Blackout to an audience of friends, family and members of the public at Derby Theatre on Thursday 5th May.
