Author: Redbrick Published: 2nd June 2016 12:28

The Institute of Quarrying (IQ) has been recognised for its contribution to the industry and service to the public as a charity at a royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

The triannual event, which attracts around 8,000 guests, invites a wide range of people to recognise the positive impact they have made upon society. This year IQ was represented by Chairman Dr Miles Watkins and President Anthony Morgan and it is set to receive regular invitations to Her Majesty's garden parties in future years.

Chairman Dr Watkins said of the invitation to the royal event: "It is a great honour to be invited to Buckingham Palace representing The Institute of Quarrying. We are all passionate about what we do and to be recognised in this way is a testament to the hard work and dedication of all of our members."

Phil James, Chief Executive, IQ said of the achievement: "This is a first in the Institute's history and a tremendous accolade to the work of IQ members over the last 99 years in contributing to the development and progression within quarrying and its impact on and service to society."

The Queen was present at the event and took the opportunity to speak to a number of guests alongside other members of the royal family.

The Institute of Quarrying works to deliver long-term education and training opportunities to those within the quarrying, construction materials and the related extractive and processing industries, as well as continuing professional development through conferences, seminars, training courses and workshops.

Most recently, the Institute unveiled its new Skills Wheel, which aims to provide lifelong training and education programs to its members.
