UK School Games coming to Sunderland !!

The North East is celebrating being chosen to hold the UK School Games 2010 and Olympic gold medallist Jason Gardener visited the region recently for the official launch.
Sunderland will unite with Gateshead and Newcastle to host the competition in September, which will attract more than 1,600 of the country's young sporting elite.
Sporting youngsters from Wearside were invited to a masterclass with top Olympic athlete, Jason Gardener, to launch this very special competition.
School Sport Ambassador Jason, who won gold as part of the 100m relay team at the 2004 Athens Olympics, took part in a sprint demonstration.
Sunderland's Rhys Garricks and Katherine Corner were among 10 of the region's school age sporting elite chosen to take part in the class, on a specially laid track in Baltic Square, Gateshead.
Rhys, 15, has been competing for three years in 60m, 100m and 200m events.
Katherine, 15, has been competing for five years in the sprint hurdles.

The UK School Games includes 10 sports - athletics, badminton, cycling, fencing, gymnastics, hockey, judo, swimming, table tennis and volleyball and there will also be disability events in swimming, athletics and table tennis.
The Aquatic Centre in Sunderland will be used for swimming events and fencing and table tennis contests will take place at the Silksworth Centre.
The groups involved in staging the event are Sunderland, Gateshead and Newcastle Councils, NewcastleGateshead Initiative along with One North East are providing funding.
