More than 8,000 children aged seven and eight from around the region have received free tennis coaching since the competition began in November last year.
Jeanette Pickard, chief executive of the Tony Blair Sports Foundation, said all the schools provided extremely tough competition during a series of matches. She added:
Participation has increased 10-fold since we started this annual competition three years ago, which is a great accomplishment.
The programme is reaching out to benefit communities right across the North-East and that is thanks to a great partnership between the foundation, the Lawn Tennis Association and school competition managers."
