Raising of Flags to mark start of the Six Nations

Published: 2nd February 2011 17:11
A display of flags will be going up in Rugby on Friday 4th February to mark the start of the Six Nations tournament.

The town will be celebrating its historical connections with its sporting namesake, with the display at the William Webb Ellis statue.

Seven flags will be put up, one for each nation and one to recognise the organisation which runs the event, Six Nations Ltd.

The town also plans to put up flags later in the autumn to mark the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

Robin Richter, chairman of Rugby First, said: "As the birthplace of the internationally renowned game of Rugby Football, the town of Rugby should celebrate major international tournaments.''
