Positive Futures Programme Announced For Young People In Rugby

National Citizen Service 2012

National Citizen Service Volunteers.

This summer, Positive Futures Rugby is taking part in an exciting programme for young people aged 16.

The National Citizen Service is being held all over the country, providing opportunities for up to 30,000 16 year olds to learn new skills, make new friends and give something back to their communities.

The programme will run for 7 to 8 weeks in total, with two four day residentials taking place during the school summer holidays.

Rugby's group of 15 young people will work together to develop skills and confidence, building their characters as well as their CV.

The climax of the programme will be for them to develop and deliver an event which will benefit their local community.

On completion, there will be a graduation party with each young person receiving a certificate of achievement signed by David Cameron.

The entire NCS experience, including residentials, activities, food and accommodation costs £50.  Bursaries are available for those who may find the cost a barrier to taking part.

Cllr Leigh Hunt, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for Sustainable Inclusive Communities, said: "Our Positive Futures team were part of the pilot programme last year, and the participants had a fantastic time and learnt a great deal. The experience can be life-changing and I would encourage young people to apply if they possibly can."
