Childcare In The Spotlight

National Childcare Week (2-9 July) presents an ideal opportunity to remind parents and carers about the detailed childcare information and support available locally.

The county's Family Information Service holds details of all Ofsted registered childcare and early education providers and has provided 1000s of parents with information to help them choose the right setting for their child.

Elaine Coates, FIS Manager explained: "People are often surprised by the wide range of childcare available. There is something out there to suit most family circumstances and our service makes it easier for parents to narrow the options down to meet their needs.

"In complex cases we can offer more intensive support to help parents find childcare and other services to help their lives run more smoothly, and the service has an excellent track record of getting people the information they need.

"The service doesn't stop with childcare, we also offer information on complementary topics such as financial support for families, local activities, parenting, bullying and much more besides."

The Daycare Trust's childcare week, now in its 15th year, is a great opportunity to raise awareness of childcare and its benefits for the whole family. Childcare, activities and early years education are great for children as they help strengthen children's play and learning to provide a good foundation for their future.  Meanwhile parents get the flexibility to return to work, consider training and further education, or get some time for themselves.

Children's Centres, school clubs and nurseries will be supporting the theme of the Childcare Week which is ‘Big Breakfast Bonanza'. All settings are encouraged to hold a breakfast event encouraging the whole family to take part and enjoy this meal together. Find out more athttp://www.daycaretrust.org.uk/.
