Rugby Families Encouraged To Join In With 'Chatter Matters Week'
Families with young children will be encouraged to find time to talk during Chatter Matters week as events around the county take place to celebrate and promote communication with babies and toddlers.
Warwickshire Chatter Matters Week runs from 4 to 8 March and lots of activities will be happening across the county in nurseries and children's centres with the aim to raise awareness of the importance of early language development. This is the third year in which local communities have celebrated and supported the week.
Warwickshire's speech and language therapists, children's centre staff, and early years providers are using the week to promote the ‘time to talk' programme which helps parents to communicate imaginatively.
Families can jump on the big red bus which will be travelling round the county during the week to find out more about ways that they can interact with their tiny tots. Bus stop details are included below.
Warwickshire Speech and Language Therapist Alex Williams explained the importance of communication. She said: "As a society we are forgetting how important it is to spend time talking and listening to young children and as a consequence many youngsters are not developing the speech and language skills they are capable of.
"Being able to listen, understand and use words effectively helps children with all aspects of their learning, making them happier and able to achieve more throughout their early years and beyond.
"The variety of sessions on offer at the county's children's centres and nurseries are about children having fun learning early language skills and parents and carers learning top tips to help them. "We will be spending time sharing rhymes, songs and stories and reminding everyone how good it feels to make time for a chat."
"We hope Chatter Matters week will give parents a taster of fun activities and give them some inspiration about how they can spend more time talking to babies and toddlers."
The ‘time to talk' programme is delivered in partnership with Warwickshire County Council and the NHS. For more information or for details of local sessions contact alex.williams@swft.nhs.uk, 07909000434 and follow Warwickshire timetotalk on Facebook.
