Abacare celebrates one year looking after elderly in Swansea

Published: 16th July 2020 13:14

AN AWARD-WINNING Welsh care provider is celebrating one year (July, 2020) of successfully looking after elderly individuals in their own homes after it took on care services in Swansea.

Abacare expanded its care services into Swansea and the surrounding areas in 2019, taking over an outgoing service provider with offices in Gorseinon.

Neil Griffiths, Regional Manager at the award-winning care organisation, said: “We have been providing care for a number of years across Wales and the expansion into Swansea was a testament to the incredible work our carers do.

“All staff and service users from the outgoing provider were transferred to us and it’s been a successful year, with some big challenges to overcome.

“The biggest challenge has been during the Coronavirus pandemic, which was unprecedented for everyone, but our carers have been exceptional and continued to provide our usual excellent standards of care.

“To show their appreciation to the carers, the Swansea office team recently came together and raised funds via raffles and donations from local businesses and friends and family in order to put together gift bags for all of the carers full of goodies. They have all gone above and beyond the call of duty and shown dedication not only to the company, but to the service users they look after, so they deserve tremendous praise.”

Abacare is delivering thousands of calls per day successfully and managing its workload. It operates a professional Care Management Team that is committed to providing high quality care to individuals in their own homes.

The large team of trained, specialist, care workers provide positive based outcomes and person-centred care to people throughout the UK.

Abacare’s core values, instilled into every staff member, include ‘make us proud’, ‘focus on our service users’ wellbeing’, ‘communicate, listen well and speak with respect’, ‘be passionate, honest, caring and considerate’, ‘recruit and develop the very best’ and ‘lead by example’.

It believes it offers inspiring work for inspirational people as well as a flexible and supported working environment.

Neil added: “We’re continually expanding our team and would love for new kind and caring individuals to join us.

“We can provide our free, full training on a fast-track basis to make sure everyone we take on is ready. This includes a company induction, first aid, information on dementia, health and safety, food safety, infection control, handling medication and moving and handling service users, with the opportunity to achieve Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) after the initial three months probationary period. The Government has also taken steps to ensure a quicker turnaround on DBS checks, so people can get into work quicker.

New recruits are given free uniforms, access to national staff discount scheme for all major brands as well as 28 days paid holiday, paid travel between calls and paid mileage.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking for a change of career or someone who just fancies a bit of a change. Being a carer is an extremely rewarding job and you get to meet lots of wonderful people too.”
