Central Bedfordshire might just be the Housing Market’s Hidden Gem

Published: 25th March 2020 13:13

Anyone who’s looking to get on the property ladder always wants to get the best deal for their money. Buying a house is a significant and long-term expense, so you want to make sure that you’re getting everything that you need from the house at the lowest price possible.

As such, house hunters are always on the lookout for areas which they perceive to have undervalued houses for sale. London is always a focal point for those looking for a potentially valuable property as it’s the economic hub of the country. Surrounding areas have become much better connected to the capital, helping to raise property values, and now, Central Bedfordshire might just be the next hidden gem in this regard.

The expanding Central Bedfordshire

Work is already in place to expand housing across Central Bedfordshire. Several projects are already underway for new housing, with the Central Bedfordshire Council pumping millions of the Housing Infrastructure Fund into establishing the necessary upgrades for the expansion.

The Council has plans to spend £40 million of the £70 million fund to establish a groundbreaking electricity network, taking the form of a 240MW super grid. The new network will not only support the existing community, but it will also suffice to power the planned 3,000 new homes in Biggleswade.

With more houses going up and a much-improved power supply, the appeal of Central Bedfordshire’s houses increases – especially when you consider its connections to London. The area is a mere 40 miles from London, with excellent connections already established in the form of the M1 and A1 as well as three mainline rail connections.

That said, and speaking to the thriving nature of the area, only around eight per cent of Central Bedfordshire residents utilise the London connection to capitalise on job opportunities in the capital. Anyone looking to perhaps move to the area will have a robust set of options for work, especially with London being so accessible.

A hidden gem of housing near London

While Central Bedfordshire looks to expand its housing market with new builds, it’s already clocking in as one of the cheaper areas to buy a house, on average. As found on this house price calculator, two-bedroom houses for people who can afford the national average deposit and national average affordable monthly repayments are ranging from the low cost of £200,000 to £260,000 in the area.

These are among the lowest house prices around the London area that hasn’t already seen house prices go through the roof. Those same parameters applied to the neighbouring Dacorum see house prices start at £250,000. The houses in Central Bedfordshire are made even more accessible to would-be buyers now, too, with anyone able to compare mortgage rates with services like Trussle to find the best deal that complements the lower house prices.

Looking at the map of house prices around London, you can see the price hike spread further outwards as time progresses and new areas become better connected to the capital. As it stands, certain forms of housing in Central Bedfordshire present themselves as more affordable than many nearby areas while also having the much-wanted access to London.

Now, it’s easier than ever before to find an ideal mortgage rate and a low-cost house in Central Bedfordshire, with even more houses on the way.
