Lighting the way creative lantern workshops in Northwood

Author: Joy Tracy Published: 2nd July 2012 16:59

Northwood Community Arts is lighting the way with creative lantern making workshops for the whole family on Tuesday 24 July. Two workshops each one, two-and-a-half hours long will take place in The Hall at St John's Church, Hallowell Road at 10.00am and 1.30pm. The sessions will be led by the inspiring rural craft artist Kate Hadley of Spinney Hollow, Hampshire.

Participants will be able to work individually or in family groups. Kate will demonstrate how to fashion lovely lanterns from basic materials such as willow and tissue paper and will offer the opportunity for lantern makers to create personal designs inspired by Olympic flag colours and designs.  Each lantern can be taken home for use either in a garden setting or can be designed to use in a processional style celebration.

The workshops are taking place on one of the very days that the Torch Relay travels close to Northwood and offers an inspirational and creative opportunity for those in the community who wish to enter into the full spirit of the this 2012 year of festivities.

The cost for each workshop is £3 per adult and £2 per child. It is possible to book for both if you are feeling really creative! Children under 12 must be accompanied by a paying adult.  Bookings must be made via the ArtReach box office on 01628 675800 or by email to northwoodarts@artreach.biz, and the NCA website can be viewed at http://www.northwoodcommunityarts.co.uk/
