Warm Up With Some Of The West Midlands Best Winter Drink Festivals

Published: 21st October 2023 14:36

Winter is coming - time to warm up with some of the best winter drink festivals the Midlands has to offer. Discover more here.

Winter is coming. Has it been too long to continue to use a Game of Thrones reference? We think not. Winter is still a dot in the distance (beginning on Friday, 22nd December) - depending on where you live in the UK, the chill is already here. After what seems like one final weekend of sun and the Met Office rumours of the first snow day creeping in - later this week, apparently, as temperatures plummet from the 20s to a cool 10 degrees - it's time to think of all the ways you can keep yourself warm.

Anyone with a taste for the finer things in life will feel a little thrill at the thought of some of the most revered wineries in the world offering wine to sip leisurely, or bring home by the bottle. There is an incredible selection both online and off, so prepare to become an amateur sommelier this winter season.

Read on to explore some of the upcoming drink festivals in the West Midlands.

Craft Beer & Street Food Pairing - 18th October

Hosted in the heart of Shrewsbury - ranked as one of the most trendy places to live in the West Midlands - the Craft Beer & Street Food Pairing event is one of the cosiest events on the list. Taking place on 22nd October, you'll find yourself tucking into a respectable collection of 6 craft beers and five small plates - not just a sip to taste, Tap and Can + Bird&Beer have teamed up to offer you enough to get the full body flavour and experience of the specially brewed craft beer.

Catering to everyone, the small plates will include gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options, cooked fresh on the day to ensure each mouthwatering flavour compliments the craft beer effortlessly.

Kicking off at 6:30 and beginning with a welcome beer, the event will last 3 hours, and tickets cost £45 a head. There's also the option to guzzle more craft beer at the end for a fee if you feel you need it.

Lichfield Wine Festival - 4th November

Hosted at The Hub at St. Mary's, the Lichfield Wine Festival never fails. Located in the heart of the quintessential city of Lichfield down the iconic Market Street, this event promises to be a delight,  as you've never tasted before. Tapping into local vineyards and distilleries, it pays tribute to some of the best homegrown wine in the West Midlands.

The event will run from 4 pm to 7 pm, giving you enough time to explore the local vendors and sip on the finest wines. Tickets are an affordable £15.

BBC Good Food Show Winter - 23rd-26th November

Would it be a post about drink festivals in the UK without talking about the BBC Good Food Show Winter? Well, technically, yes, this one is cheating. Combining some of the most delectable food and drinks on the market, the BBC Good Food Show is always a hit.

Hosted at the NEC Birmingham, you'll find an array of vendors selling everything from fine wine to the smelliest cheese your nose will have the pleasure of experiencing. Combine this with the live cooking shows from some of your favourite chefs and interactive stations; it really isn't an event to miss.

Tickets start at £25, with VIP tickets a more pricey £100. It's well worth a trip.

So there you have it, some of the best upcoming drink festivals in the West Midlands during the upcoming chilly months. They're the perfect way to escape the confinements of your home, taste alcohol you may not have tried before, and warm up your winter bones.
