Successfully Sustainable Wedding Fayre

Published: 2nd March 2012 17:10

The Alternative Wedding Fayre on Sunday February 26 was bursting with brides-to-be, who came to the Green House Hotel to discover how to plan an environmentally friendly wedding.

Betrothed couples browsed the organic, fair-trade, recycled and vintage wedding wares which filled the four-star, boutique hotel in Bournemouth. Fresh Floral Florists and Miss Dolly's vintage tea parties dressed the Green Room restaurant to show brides-to-be how beautiful their special day could be and designer bridal brand, the House of Tammam, was on hand to dress the brides in a selection of eco-couture wedding dresses.

Parked in the hotel grounds, waiting to whisk the bridal party off in style were Dorset Dubhire's baby blue campervan, Lulu, Limberlost carriages and Silver Service cars. Visitors sampled ice cream in the sunshine, courtesy of Little Al's vintage ice cream trike which took pride of place in the hotel gardens.

Sarah Pavett, event manager of The Green House Hotel, said: "We are delighted to have met so many future brides and to inspire them to be considerate in their wedding choices. As the UK's greenest hotel, it is our ethos to educate that you can have a wonderful wedding that doesn't scrimp on luxuries but doesn't cost the earth either."

Anna Coombes from Miss Dolly's Vintage Events, who exhibited at the Fayre, commented: "The event had a lovely energy, so thank you to the Green House for all your hard work. I'd love to be involved if you host another Alternative Wedding Fayre."

General manager of the Green House hotel, Olivia O'Sullivan, added: "Thank you to all our sustainable suppliers and to all the happy couples who came to see us, even the sun made an appearance!"
