Haskins Garden Centre donates £2,500 to grow local child bereavement charity’s services

Author: Online Stories Published: 14th November 2019 16:37

Haskins Garden Centre has donated £2,500 to Jigsaw (South East) through its Charitable Fund, enabling the charity to run a new support group and activity day for bereaved children in Sussex.

The charity was nominated by Haskins team member Toni Middleton from Haskins' Snowhill centre. Toni explained: "Having lost my own mother at the age of 13, I immediately felt a personal connection to the charity and wanted to help.

"I honestly believe that my family would have really benefitted from the support services that the charity provides, and we would have avoided the many issues that her death caused within the family."

Jigsaw (South East) will use the grant to run a Saturday support group for children aged four to seven. It will also support an activity day created to help children manage their grief by providing them with emotional support and coping strategies. Additionally, the charity aims to hold an information evening for parents and carers in Reigate, to give adults advice about the best ways of supporting children who have lost a loved one.

Jamie Haskins, member of the Haskins family, said: "We are very pleased that we have been able to help Jigsaw (South East) to fund more workshops and activity days for the local community. The organisation can now also buy their first branded gazebo, which will help to increase awareness of the charity. We wish them all the best for the future."

Carolyn Steer, Business Development Manager of Jigsaw (South East), said: "We are delighted to have received the grant from Haskins. Snowhill Garden Centre is located within our community and this will enable us to help more local children who have lost a loved one. Haskins has been a great supporter of our fundraising events and we are so pleased to be able to develop our relationship further."

The Haskins Charitable Fund was set up in 2017 to benefit charities and community projects local to its four garden centres across the south, through personal nominations from its staff. The Haskins team of over 650 employees can nominate their chosen charity or local community project, located within 15km radius to a Haskins centre. The Trust accepts nominations for charities which benefit vulnerable children and their families, for horticultural and environmental projects, or for hospices and respite care providers.

Haskins Snowhill is located in West Park Road, Copthorne, West Sussex. For more information visit www.haskins.co.uk
